Ball State Drops Sunday Contest to Toledo - BallStateSports.com

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Ball State baseball team returned to Scott Park for the final game of a four-game stint against Toledo. The Rockets prevented the four-game sweep with a 5-1 victory over the Cardinals in the Mid-American Conference contest.  
 
The Cardinals fell to 17-9 overall and 12-2 in MAC games, while Toledo improved to 13-14 overall and 7-8 in conference action.
 
Amir Wright reached base safely for the 26th-straight game, but his 12-game hitting streak came to an end. Trenton Quartermaine finished the day with a 1-for-2 performance including the team's only RBI. Adam Christianson, Zach Cole, Justin Conant, and Zach Lane each added a hit for the Cardinals.
 
The Rockets gained their first lead of the four-game series in the bottom of the first on a two-run homer from Darryn Davis.
 
Conant singled to center field to start the top of the third inning for Ball State. Lane followed with a single to right field. Wright drew a walk to load the bases for the Cardinals. Quartermaine drove a single liner to right field. The Toledo right fielder made a diving catch but allowed Conant to tag up and score from third. BSU cut the UT lead to 2-1.
 
Toledo added three runs in the bottom of the third on two hits and two errors to take a 5-1 lead after three innings in the books.
 
Ty Weatherly fell to 0-2 on the season. Weatherly went two innings and gave up four runs, two earned, with two strikeouts. Maxwell McKee went an inning in relief and surrendered an earned run. Casey Bargo pitched four shutout innings with four strikeouts and gave up just one hit. Steven Washilewski added 2/3 of an inning, while Zach Losey tossed 1/3 of an inning.
 
Camryn Szynski picked up the win behind six innings with four strikeouts. Davis lifted the Toledo offense with a 2-for-2 day and a home run.
 
Ball State takes to the road for a Tuesday afternoon contest at Western Michigan. First pitch is scheduled for 4:05 p.m.
