History

MUNCIE, Ind. – Four singles victories helped the Northern Illinois University men's tennis team to a 4-3 win over Ball State on Sunday afternoon (April 10). After dropping the doubles point, the Huskies won four of the first five singles matches to finish as they improved to 11-8 overall, 5-4 in Mid-American Conference play. 

Ball State scored the first point of the day as Danilo Kovacevic and Chris Adams claimed a 6-2 win at number one doubles with Vince Orlando and Parrish Simmons picking up a 6-4 victory at number three. 

Armin Koschtojan evened the contest in the first singles match to finish as he topped Simmons, 6-3, 6-0, at number five, to earn his fourth consecutive singles win. 

After the Cardinals picked up a win at number six through Petar Petrovic, Kristopher Ortega evened things again when he finished a 6-3, 7-5 win against Kovacevic at number two. 

Each of the final three matches to finish went three sets, with Oliver Valentinsson winning the first of those matches with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 triumph over Thibault de Negri at number one. Mikael Vollbach then earned the Huskies the overall win as he completed a 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 comeback victory against Eli Herran at number four. 

NIU has won three of its last four matches and will return home next Saturday, April 16, as the Huskies host Western Michigan in their final conference match, scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
