NBA: Warriors hurt by crucial jump ball call on key Game 1 play vs. Grizzlies - NBC Sports

Referees missed three calls that impacted the Warriors in potentially game-changing ways in the final two minutes of their hectic 117-116 win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday.

But one missed call gave Memphis the opportunity to win Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals.

After Klay Thompson missed his second free-throw attempt, players on both sides jumped and scrambled to secure the rebound before the ball went out of bounds with 4.8 seconds remaining.

The officials puzzlingly looked at each other, all unsure of who touched the ball last. As a result, a jump ball was assessed and Memphis regained possession of the ball.

The play wasn’t reviewable because a coach’s challenge is the only way to trigger a replay review for out-of-bounds violations.

However, officials revealed in the league's Last Two Minute Report on Monday that Grizzlies forward Dillon Brooks touched the ball last before it went out, and Golden State should have had possession for the final seconds.

Memphis ended up calling a timeout before a missed Ja Morant layup secured the win for the Warriors. But if the Grizzlies figured out a way to score in that final possession, the missed call from the officials would have been detrimental.

The NBA also acknowledged a missed three-second violation on Grizzlies forward Josh Jackson Jr. with 1:46 remaining. The missed call allowed Morant to score and give Memphis the 114-112 lead.

The third missed call actually ended up helping Golden State. The officials missed a traveling violation on Steph Curry that led to a foul in that same possession before the Grizzlies were forced to foul Thompson and send him to the free-throw line.

Sunday’s officiating was a notable cause of concern throughout the entire game as fans took NBA Twitter by storm after Draymond Green’s ejection due to a questionable Flagrant 2 foul.

It was gritty, but the Dubs wound up pulling out a win in Memphis and will look to take an early 2-0 series lead on Tuesday before heading back home to Chase Center.
