Ball State posts record-breaking score in latest NCAA APR Report - BallStateSports.com

MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State Athletics earned its highest-ever Academic Progress Rate (APR) with a score of 992 for the 2020-21 season, the NCAA announced Tuesday. Ball State's previous best mark of 991 was accomplished following the 2018-19 year.

The APR, created to provide more of a real-time measurement of academic success than graduation rates offer, is a team-based metric in which scholarship student-athletes earn one point each term for remaining eligible and one point for staying in school or graduating. Schools that don't offer scholarships track their recruited student-athletes. The nationwide APR average was 984, up one point from the last publicly reported rate in May of 2020.

In total, 12 teams earned perfect scores of 1,000 for the 2020-21 year, including baseball, men's basketball, men's golf, men's tennis, men's volleyball, softball, women's cross country, women's golf, women's soccer, women's swimming and diving, women's track and field and women's volleyball.

In addition, seven teams have posted perfect scores of 1,000 for their multiyear rate, including men's golf, men's tennis, women's cross country, women's golf, women's soccer, women's swimming and diving and women's track and field. The numbers include data from 2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20 and 2020-21 academic years.

Thirteen of Ball State's 18 teams (indoor and outdoor track combined as one) either matched or exceeded their last multiyear APR score. Women's golf made the biggest leap, rising 38 points to 1,000. Baseball, men's golf, women's soccer and women's track and field also improved their scores by 10-plus points.

There were also 13 teams who logged higher multiyear scores than the national average. In addition to 1,000-point scorers men's golf, men's tennis, women's cross country, women's golf, women's soccer, women's swimming and diving and women's track and field, teams that exceeded the national mark include softball (997), men's volleyball (996), baseball (992), women's tennis (992), men's basketball (985) and football (973).
