Nicole Kidman as Lucille Ball — see new pic from 'Being the Ricardos' - Today.com

A new photo of Nicole Kidman as Lucille Ball finds the Oscar winner practically channelling the legendary "I Love Lucy" star.

Kidman is portraying Ball in the upcoming biopic "Being the Ricardos," which co-stars fellow Oscar winner Javier Bardem as Ball's husband and co-star Desi Arnaz. The movie, written and directed by Aaron Sorkin, focuses on the couple's life during one week of shooting their classic sitcom.

Kidman, 53, was captured on camera Tuesday while taking a break on the film's set in Long Beach, California.

In the new image, the "Big Little Lies" star rocks fiery red hair with tight curls and a vintage gold-green dress. Her lips are adorned with bright red lipstick, just like Ball wore, and her eyebrows have been shaped into dramatic arches.

The new pic comes just days after earlier images of Kidman and Bardem in character surfaced. Those photos showed the actors decked out in vintage 1950s-era clothes. Kidman wore yellow slacks and a checkered blazer with a scarf tied around her head. Bardem was seen in black pants and a green tuxedo jacket.

Though Kidman looks great as Ball — and is obviously a talented actor — some "I Love Lucy" fans are surprised she was cast to play the Hollywood legend.

Many have taken to Twitter to wonder why "Will & Grace" alum Debra Messing isn't starring in the movie instead. Messing's resemblance to Ball, they argue, has been noted over the years, with the Emmy winner even dressing up as Ball on "Will & Grace."

And, like Ball, Messing has also spent her career making people laugh on TV.

"I'm so, SO, SO excited about the Lucille Ball biopic and that my fave comedian is trending. I grew up on her. I agree that Debra Messing's resemblance more uncanny (and also her natural comedic tendencies) than Nicole Kidman's, but I'll go into it with an open mind," one fan tweeted.

"I love #NicoleKidman she’s one of my favs. But, Emmy winner #debramessing was born to play #lucilleball she has the look and the chops!" tweeted another fan, who included photos of Messing in costume as Ball.

When one fan tweeted back in January to question if perhaps Messing was "unavailable" for the role, Messing tweeted back, "Oh no, I'm available."

As for Kidman, she knows playing the Hollywood legend will be an honor and a challenge.

“I was like, ‘Yeah, I would love to give it a go,’” Kidman told Variety in January. “With Aaron’s words and his direction and Javier ... that’s kind of a wonderful prospect to, you know. But yikes, off we go. Give it a go. Try my best — see if I can do it.”

Five arrested in connection with Lady Gaga dog walker shooting - NBC News

bolaboladulu.blogspot.com

Five people have been arrested in connection with the shooting of Lady Gaga's dog walker, according to California police.

The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to NBC News that five people were arrested on Tuesday, four of whom were allegedly known gang members from Los Angeles. They have been charged with attempted murder.

“This was a brazen street crime that left a man seriously wounded,” Los Angeles County District Attorney Gascón said in a press release. “We have alleged very serious charges in this case and have faith that justice will be appropriately served as this case unfolds in court.”

Two of the pop star's French bulldogs were dognapped from a Los Angeles street in February; Gaga offered a half million dollar reward for their return, and her dog walker, Ryan Fischer, was shot and injured during the theft. Fischer did not immediately respond to a NBC News request for comment.

"Detectives do not believe the suspects were targeting the victim because of the dogs’ owner," the LAPD said in a press release. "However, evidence suggests the suspects knew the great value of the breed of dogs and was the motivation for the robbery."

Gaga was reunited with the dogs, who were returned by a woman to police shortly afterward. The woman was one of those arrested.

The suspects are expected to be arraigned today.

In an email, the Los Angeles County District Attorney said they do not know if the five suspects have legal representation.

Five new COVID cases on Nantucket Thursday - The Inquirer and Mirror

bolaboladulu.blogspot.com

(April 29, 2021) Nantucket Cottage Hospital officials reported five new positive COVID-19 cases on the island Thursday, bringing the number of cases this week to 31, and the total number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 1,533.

There were also 39 negative cases Thursday.

“The bulk of all our cases have been from indoor transmissions,” health director Roberto Santamaria told the Select Board at their meeting Wednesday night.

“Little by little we are getting through this, but what’s important to understand with the numbers we’re seeing on Nantucket as well as across the state is that COVID is one of those illnesses that’s going to be here to stay like the flu and the common cold."

There have been five COVID-19 Nantucket deaths since the start of the pandemic, the most recent April 7 – a woman in her mid-50s.

Nantucket Cottage Hospital officials have administered first doses of the vaccine to 7,852 people, and two doses to 5,082 people as of Monday. About 45 percent of the island’s white population is fully vaccinated, while 20 percent of Black, 30 percent of Asian and 11 percent of Hispanic people are fully vaccinated, Santamaria said.

Vaccination of the general public began April 19. (Click here for more information from NCH).

All COVID-19 testing is being conducted at the hospital's 57 Prospect St. drive-through portico to free up additional vaccination space at the New South Road VFW. Testing for those with symptoms and close contacts is held from 7-10 a.m. Monday-Friday.

COVID-19 elective testing for asymptomatic patients (those with no symptoms) is held from 10 a.m.-noon Monday-Friday and 8 a.m.-10 a.m. Saturdays. Starting Wednesday, it will be by appointment only. Click here for more.

Hospital staff have collected 31,655 nasal swabs for testing since the start of the pandemic last March. In addition to the 1,533 positive tests, 30,122 have come back negative. For more information about symptomatic and asymptomatic testing, click here.

Gov. Charlie Baker this week laid out his plan to relax COVID-19 restrictions in the coming months, beginning with easing outdoor mask-wearing rules set to take effect on Friday.

His plan also includes raising gathering limits to 200 people indoors and 250 outdoors beginning May 29, which could have a major impact on the local wedding industry.

In the announcement made Tuesday, Baker said face-coverings will only be required outdoors when it is not possible to socially distance, or whenever sector-specific guidance requires it.

"I ask everyone on Nantucket to take personal responsibility and do all you can to reduce the potential for transmission in our community. That means wearing masks, staying physically distant, washing your hands, and not hosting or attending gatherings with people outside your immediate households,"  Nantucket Cottage Hospital president and CEO Gary Shaw said recently.

"Most of all, we want our community to stay healthy, we want our economy to remain open, we want our public schools to be able to return to in-person learning. To that end, we must work together and apply the simple preventive measures that will keep this situation from spiraling out of control."

Infrastructure Bank Loan Approved For Five Projects - butlerradio.com

bolaboladulu.blogspot.com

Butler County Commissioners approved the loan rates for the latest round of funding from the county’s infrastructure bank.

A 10 year loan for just over $23 million was approved at a rate of 1.707 percent with Key Bank to help provide funding for local municipality projects. The county issued a Request for Proposal at their last meeting, and received interest in five banks.

The next lowest loan rate came from JP Morgan Chase at 1.96 percent, but also included over $12,000 in bank fees.

Five different projects were included in the loan. (Detailed lists of the projects are listed below.)

“The real success story here is the Chicora Sewer Authority and the Prospect Borough. Even their loan amounts aren’t that high at $245,000 and $400,000 respectively,” The county’s Chief of Economic Development and Planning Mark Gordon said. “If they were doing that on their own, they never would have been able to do that.”

The Butler County Infrastructure Bank takes a loan out and then helps subsidize projects in local municipalities.

The $23 million loan is the most ever in the three year history of the Infrastructure Bank. The total has now eclipsed $40 million according to Gordon.

“When you upgrade sewer systems, that allows for more developments. That allows municipalities to have more capacity.”

When you bring water to other areas that don’t have municipal water, that stimulates more growth. That stimulation and growth generates more property taxes, school taxes that brings more people to the county,” Gordon said. “That’s a good thing.”

PROJECTS:

  1. Butler Township Pullman Recreation Complex Transportation Improvements: A new athletic recreation facility is being planned for the Pullman Square complex by Butler Township. This loan will provide safe and efficient access for the community and pubic transit by realigning Hollywood and Armco Drives to create a new four-way intersection and reconfiguring of Whitestown Road and Hansen Avenue. The project budget is $6.5 million.
  2. Chicora Borough Sewer Authority Treatment Plant Holding Tank Repairs: The project aims to ensure the structural integrity of the sewer service by repariing the concrete treatment and sludge holding tanks and structural beam at the sewage treatment plant. The treatment plant that was built in 1997 is currently operating at 65 percent, and these repairs will extend the life of the plant by 25 years according to officials. The project budget is $245,000
  3. Municipal Water Authority of Adams Township Route 8/Butler County Airport Water Line Extension Project: The project will extend a water line six miles north along Route 8 from Overbrook Road in Middlesex Township to the Butler County Airport in Penn Township. Officials say this will help bring safety and economic benefits including emergency response at the airport. They also cite the ability to enable future commercial and residential development along the Route 8 corridor. The project budget is $5.05 million
  4. Prospect Borough Monroe Street Extension and Crab Run Culvert Replacement: The Monroe St. Extension project will provide a new asphalt driving surface and upgraded drainage system. The project budget is $400,000
  5. Harmony Pump Station Infrastructure Improvement Project: The Western Butler County Authority Plan identifiefd the need to upgrade the Harmony Pump Station and associated infrastructure within the next five years. The station requires upgrades to address its condition due to age, existing hydraulic ccapacity issues, and future growth. Officials also say the Harmony Pump Station equipment has become less reliable and, overall, the station’s conveyance capacity is undersized. The project will hope to meet anticipated residential and commercial growth. The project budget is $10.6 million.

Five Star Performer - Ladelle Hazen - KSNB Local 4

bolaboladulu.blogspot.com

BLUE HILL, Neb. (KSNB) - Down in Webster County, underneath the white Blue Hill water tower you may find Ladelle Hazen doing what she loves.

“I like the feeling,” Hazen said. “After you get done running there is usually an adrenaline rush.”

As a long distance runner, Hazen has her own way to motivate herself.

“Who can I get next,” she said. “So, if I’m lapping somebody. Who’s next in line so I can make my time better and become a better runner.”

That mindset has put her name in Blue Hill’s record books.

“She’s got our cross country record, our two-mile record, was really close two years ago with the one-mile record,” Blue Hill girls track coach Riley Armes said. “So, as far as best times in Blue Hill’s history she’s right towards the top.”

Her success drew eyes from colleges but not just ones close to Nebraska, as Hazen signed her national letter of intent to run track for Division I program, Hartford in Connecticut.

“When they called me, I didn’t even know where they were,” Hazen said. “So, I was pretty surprised when I found out and what division they were was pretty awesome when I found that out.”

For a small school, signing with a Division I school came with a learning curve.

“She said we have to do this NCAA eligibility thing and I said, ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about? I’ve never heard it,’ So, I made a lot of phone calls,” Armes said.

The phone calls worked as she will run for the Hartford Hawks next fall. Even out on the East Coast, she will not forget what she has learned at Blue Hill.

“They taught me the value of things in a small town,” Hazen said. “So, that is going to be different from a big town cause you don’t know everyone and here you know almost everybody. So, I’m going to miss this place but I will definitely try to move back here after college.”

Hazen has her eyes set on bettering her times ahead of districts and then the State Meet where she hopes to medal like she did her sophomore season when she placed fifth in the 3200m.

Savannah Barker, Alexa Saldana win U.S. Women's Amateur Four-ball Championship - ESPN

CARROLLTON, Texas -- Savannah Barker and Alexa Saldana won the U.S. Women's Amateur Four-ball Championship on Wednesday, surviving a 20-hole match in the semifinals and then pulling away late in the final at Maridoe Golf Club.

Barker and Saldana won six of the last eight holes, finishing with a birdie on the par-3 14th hole for a 5-and-4 victory over Jillian Bourdage and Casey Weidenfeld.

Bourdage and Weidenfeld also lost in the championship match two years ago.

Barker and Savannah, the 26th seed out of 32 teams that made it through medal qualifying, never had to go more than 15 holes in their first three matches.

But in the semifinals Wednesday morning, they lost a 3-up lead through 10 holes and had to go overtime against Gianna Clemente and Avery Zweig, winning with a birdie on the second extra hole.

Bourdage and Weidenfeld lost a 4-up lead after 11 holes in their semifinal match against Paris Hilinski and Alexa Pano, prevailing on the 20th hole with a birdie.

In the championship match, Bourdage and Weidenfeld birdied the opening hole and still were 1 up through six holes when it all fell apart.

Barker and Saldana won the next two holes with pars to take the lead. They won the final three holes of the match with two pars and a birdie on the 14th.

It was the shortest championship match since the U.S. Women's Amateur Four-ball began in 2015. The USGA event was canceled last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Plate ump Layne hit in mask by foul ball, leaves game - WTOP

NEW YORK (AP) — Plate umpire Jerry Layne was staggered by a foul ball off his mask and left the game between the Boston Red Sox and New York Mets at Citi Field on Wednesday night.

The 62-year-old crew chief stumbled backward in the third inning after Francisco Lindor fouled off a 94 mph pitch from Red Sox starter Nick Pivetta. Boston catcher Christian Vázquez hopped up quickly and steadied Layne, followed by Lindor.

“He got hit hard, man. It’s scary, you know?” Vázquez said. “His eye was like, up — like he was lost, you know? He got hit hard. If I don’t hold him, he’s on the ground, he’d fall down. He told me that, `I’m dizzy, man, I’m dizzy.’ So I hope he’s good.”

Layne held one hand on his helmet as he was tended to by Mets trainer Brian Chicklo, who ultimately guided the umpire off the field. Layne received a warm cheer from the crowd and took a seat in the New York dugout.

The game was delayed nine minutes while first base ump Hunter Wendelstedt went inside to put on gear so he could take over behind the plate. Play resumed with only three umpires on the field the rest of the way, and Boston won 1-0.

A few innings after Layne exited, Mets fans cheered when Vázquez wanted to appeal a check swing — only to find no umpire at third base to make a call.

It was the second consecutive night that a major league ump working the plate left a game because of injury.

Kerwin Danley was hit in the mask by a foul ball Tuesday in San Francisco, causing the game between the Rockies and Giants to be delayed several minutes.

The 59-year-old Danley immediately fell backward, then slowly rolled onto his side and stayed down for several moments as Giants trainers and the other three umpires rushed in.

Danley was eventually helped to his feet and slowly walked off the field as the crowd at Oracle Park gave him a standing ovation.

Second base umpire Ryan Additon replaced Danley behind the plate.
