Five-Star Punter Mitchell Groh Accepts Walk-On Offer To Penn State Football - Onward State

Penn State football added a talented special teamer to its recruiting class of 2021 Wednesday night.

Dallastown, Pennsylvania punter Mitchell Groh announced his commitment to the Nittany Lions via Twitter this week.

“I want to thank Coach Lorig, Coach Franklin and Coach Raisbeck for giving me this incredible opportunity,” Groh wrote. “I am committing to Penn State University to further my academic and athletic career.”

The Nittany Lions now boast a deep group of specialists in their 2021 recruiting class. Five-star long snapper Tyler Duzansky committed to Franklin’s program this past October, while top-ranked kicker Sander Sahaydak and kicker/punter Gabe Nwosu both announced their commitments earlier this year.

According to Kohl’s Kicking, Groh is considered the No. 19 punter in the nation. The 6’0″, 180-pounder is ranked as a five-star punter and 4.5-star kicker. Kohl’s described him as “one of the more impressive combo specialist” at the Eastern Showcase camp held several months ago.

While he also receiver offers from Miami (Ohio) and Fordham, Groh ultimately elected to stay in his home state. He’ll now have a chance to learn under Jordan Stout and Jake Pinegar, both of whom now considered veterans on Penn State’s special teams unit.
