ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 5-ranked University of Michigan women's gymnastics team placed second in the Big Five Meet, scoring a 195.925 on Saturday (Feb. 27) at Crisler Center. Iowa won the even with a 196.100, while Penn State came in third with a 195.950 and Rutgers rounded out the event with a 195.225.

Michigan State was scheduled to compete in the Big Five Meet, but withdrew on Thursday (Feb. 25) due to COVID-19 protocols, leaving the event with four teams.

Sophomore Sierra Brooks highlighted the Michigan lineup, winning the all-around, vault and tying for the win on balance beam. Brooks stuck her landing on the vault in the third rotation to tie a career-best 9.975 before going on to earn a career-high 9.950 on the beam. Brooks captured the all-around title for the first time this season with a 39.575.

Sophomore Nicoletta Koulos scored a career-best 9.925 on the uneven bars to match Natalie Wojcik in a tie for second place.

After a hard rotation on the floor, the Wolverines bounced back and scored a 49.525 on vault. Michigan was led by Brooks' 9.975 to earn the victory, while Wojcik scored a 9.925 and Gabby Wilson earned a 9.900.

Koulos and Wojcik highlighted the U-M uneven bars rotation as both scored a team-high 9.925, marking a career best for Koulos. Wilson and Brooks also had solid outings, both scoring 9.900. That score tied Wilson's career high and gave Brooks her second mark on 9.900 or better on the afternoon. The Wolverines scored a 49.525 and headed into the final rotation with a running score of 146.550.

Moving to the beam in the final rotation, Brooks continued to impress, scoring a career-best 9.950 to take home her second title of the afternoon. Wojcik scored a 9.900 to place third overall, but it was not enough to eclipse Iowa, who earned the meet victory.

Following the meet, Michigan honored its three seniors -- Anna Dayton, Lauren Farley and Anne Maxim.
