Coming off back-to-back NCAA regional appearances, the Cowboys are led by head coach Justin Hill who will enter his ninth season at the helm. Hill's squad is set to return 25 players while bringing in 15 newcomers (11 transfers, four freshmen).
Hill was rewarded with a three-year contract extension this past summer after he led the program through four natural disasters and severely damaged facilities en route to the NCAA Tournament. His teams have won 30 or more games in six of his eight years with one season, 2020, cut short due to the Covid pandemic.
It is a welcoming sight for the Pokes to hit the diamond as scheduled this fall as last year's circumstances delayed the start of fall ball until November.
As aforementioned, the Cowboys will be in action tomorrow (Friday, Sept. 24) and another intrasquad scrimmage will take place the following day (Saturday, Sep. 25).
Both are set for 3 p.m., fans will be able to get their first look at the 2022 team as the scrimmages are open to the public.
The Pokes fall practice segment will run for 45 days (31 practice days) through Sunday, November 7th.
The 2022 schedule is in the process of being finalized.
*As a reminder, the Baseball and Softball's annual fundraiser, "Draw Down" will take place Friday, October 15th at Crying Eagle Brewery. Doors open at 6:30 and the event will begin an hour later at 7:30 p.m.
