"We're excited about the release of our schedule," Wheatley said. "When putting together the competition schedule, we build it to reflect where we are at currently and where we want to be. This schedule will provide an opportunity for our high-end performers, but also allow our athletes to continue to grow and develop into the team that we want to be. We've been competing extremely hard during the fall and I'm excited to see how this all comes to fruition."
Two home meets highlight the annual slate, one being an indoor meet on Jan. 28 and the other an outdoor meet on April 16.
The indoor meet is set to take place at the Field Sports Building, while the outdoor meet will be at the University Track at the Briner Sports Complex.
The Cardinals start the season before the new year when they travel in-state for the Hoosier Open in Bloomington, Ind. Dec. 10.
After the calendar switches to 2022, Ball State travels for the Jim Green Invitational (hosted by Kentucky) Jan. 14-15 and Simmons-Harvey Invitational (hosted by Michigan) Jan. 22 before welcoming teams to Muncie, Ind. for its home indoor meet.
The Cardinals then have two more opportunities in the indoor regular season with trips to South Bend, Ind. for the Meyo Invitational (Feb. 4-5) and Kent, Ohio for the Doug Raymond National Qualifier.
The Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships are scheduled for Feb. 24-26 in Kent, Ohio, while the NCAA Indoor Championships are on the calendar for March 10-12 in Birmingham, Ala.
Outdoor season begins with three events in the south. Ball State begins with the War Eagle Invitational (hosted by Auburn) March 18-19 before splitting the squad for the Miami Relays and Texas Relays, March 23-26.
After a trip to Normal, Ill. for the Redbird Invite April 1, Coach Wheatley returns to his alma mater for the Tennessee Relays April 8-9.
The Cardinals then host a home meet on April 16 before hitting the road for the final two weeks of the outdoor regular season.
Ball State closes out the month of April with a trip to Columbus, Ohio for the Jesse Owens Invitational (April 22-23) and then splits the squad for opportunities in Hillsdale, Mich. for the Hillsdale "GINA" Relays and Kalamazoo, Mich. for the Western Michigan Challenge April 28-30.
The conference outdoor championships are just two weeks later in Kalamazoo, Mich. May 12-14.
Bloomington, Ind. is set to host the NCAA East Prelims May 25-28, while the NCAA Outdoor Championships return to Eugene, Ore. June 8-11.
