Softball Adds Five To 2022 Signing Class - WOU Athletics

MONMOUTH, Ore. – With a mix of local talent and a variety of players that can play all over the field, the Western Oregon University softball program is excited to announce the five student-athletes signed for the 2022 recruiting class as announced by head coach Lonny Sargent.

"We are so excited for this recruiting class and the depth they're going to add to our roster. With this class we've added speed, players that can swing it, are smooth operators on the defensive side and incredible students. The fun part for us is knowing how good Syd, Carly, Ellie, Carley & Victoria are going to be. Even more important than their talent on the field and in the classroom, they are amazing people from awesome families. Glad they are on our team. Go Wolves!" Sargent said.

Victoria Zimmerman is an outfielder from Ellensburg High School in Ellensburg, Wash. She played all varsity all four seasons taking home multiple honors including the 2021 Ellensburg Daily Record Kittitas County Softball Player of the Year, 2021 CWAC First Team All-League and 2019 CWAC Second Team All-League. In addition, Zimmerman earned 2021 First Team All-League and Defensive Player of the Year accolades in soccer. This past season she hit .512 with a .623 OBP and slugged .805. Zimmerman collected 21 hits, three doubles, three triples and drove in 12, while scoring 25 runs. During the 2019 season, Zimmerman hit .426 with 34 runs scored and 26 hits, including three triples and five doubles. She added 11 stolen bases on 12 attempts.

Ellie Ravins is a middle infielder from Glencoe High School in Hillsboro, Ore. She played varsity all four seasons and earned multiple awards including 2019 Max Prep Player of the Game (May 10, 24), Pacific All-League First Team Infield and 2021 Pacific All-League Honorable Mention. Ravins finished this past season hitting .385 with a .957 fielding percentage. She helped lead the team to the 2019 6A State Championship third round, in the fall of 2021 qualified for Gold Nationals in Oklahoma City that will take place July 2022 and her club team, the Red Heat 18 Gold finished the 2021 season with a 31-2-1 record.

Carley Schlag is an outfielder from Sprague High School in South Salem, Ore. She played varsity all four seasons and also competed in volleyball her first two seasons of high school. Schlag earned First Team All-League honor as a junior in 2020 after serving as a team captain and posting a .526 batting average, .816 OBP and added 12 assists in the field. During the 2019 season, she hit .489.

Sydney Conklin is a middle infielder from Corvallis High School in Corvallis, Ore. She played varsity all four seasons and also competed in basketball throughout her prep career and one season playing soccer. Conklin has been the starting shortstop all four seasons, earning Second Team All-League as a freshman and this past season taking home First Team All-League and Honorable Mention All-State. She began her career hitting .369 and added a .353 average this past season. Conklin helped lead the team to the first round of the playoffs this past season. She was also part of the top-ranked basketball team in 5A this past year and helped the soccer team to the second round of the playoffs. Conklin's club team placed fifth at the PGF Nationals Platinum. In addition to her strong play on the field, Conklin holds a 3.8 GPA and is a member of National Honors Society.

Carly Turpen is a middle infielder/outfielder from Capital High School in Boise, Idaho. She played varsity all four seasons and played two seasons of basketball as well. Turpen began her career being named to the 5A SIC All-Conference Infield Honorable Mention Team, Capital Softball Best Defensive Player. Over the past three seasons, she has earned the IHSAA Outstanding Individual Scholastic Award (3.75-4.0 GPA) and the SIC Academic Award (3.5-4.0 GPA). During this past season, Turpen earned the 5A SIC All-Conference Infield Second Team honor, and the Capital Softball Best Defensive Player award for the second time. She tallied a .313 batting average as a freshman, driving in 12 and scoring 14 runs. During the 2020 season, Turpen hit .500 and this past season added a .382 average with 29 runs scored, 29 hits and 15 RBI, along with four home runs and nine stolen bases. Turpen has been on honor roll throughout her prep career.
