Lonzo Ball injury history and updates - Pippen Ain't Easy

How often has Bulls star Lonzo Ball been injured in his career?

Chicago Bulls starting point guard Lonzo Ball is currently sidelined after undergoing meniscus surgery back in January. Ball has had his fair share of injuries throughout his career, including a pair a meniscus tears that have kept him off the court for quite some time. And this year, his absence has truly shown how valuable he is as a player on both sides of the ball.

Here’s a comprehensive look at Ball’s injury history to date.

Lonzo Ball injury history

This list isn’t an indicator that Ball is damaged goods or that he isn’t going to be able to come back strong. There isn’t a single NBA player without an injury history — especially among those who play hard defense. Ball has returned from most the injuries on this list and has improved his game each season, as Bulls fans learned firsthand when it came to his jump shot.

Meniscus Tear, 2022

In January, Ball suffered a meniscus tear in his left knee on Jan. 14 against the Golden state Warriors. The team initially thought the injury was a knee bruise. Further evaluation later revealed the tear, and he underwent surgery to address the injury on Jan. 28.

Ball has been out since. He suffered a setback and his rehab has been paused for 10 days.

Health and Safety Protocols, 2021

Following the Christmas break, Ball was sidelined for 10 days after contracting the COVID-19 virus. The Bulls as a team were hit hard by the COVID-19 protocols in December, with a total of 13 players being sidelined for a portion of that month.

At the time, the Bulls were 22-9 and Ball was having a career year from beyond the arc.

Thumb Sprain, 2021

The New Orleans Pelicans’ season wasn’t what they expected last year, and Ball’s absence late in the season was a part of it. As they were in the race for the last play-in spot, Ball was unavailable due to a thumb sprain.

At the time, Ball was averaging 14 points, five rebounds and five assists. The Pelicans missed the play-in and Ball took his talents to Chicago.

Hip Flexor Strain, 2021

Ball missed 11 games due to a hip flexor strain. He initially tried to come back after missing seven games but was unable to shake the hip soreness.

Knee Tendinopathy, 2021

The Pelicans were without Ball for three games in Jan. 2021 because of bilateral knee tendinopathy. It was the first time he was on the injury report that season. He was averaging 12 points and six assists at that point.

Adductor Strain, 2019

Ball injured his adductor (groin) in the Pelicans’ loss to the Brooklyn Nets on Nov. 4. He initially tried to play through the injury, but had to sit out a total of six games. He had started the season strong,  averaging a then-career-high 11.5 points with 6.1 assists and 4.5 rebounds while shooting a career-best 36% from three.

Ankle Sprain, 2019

Ball’s tenure with the Lakers was filled with unlucky breaks. In his second season, the Lakers had to shut Ball down for the season due to a Grade 3 ankle sprain he sustained against the Houston Rockets on Jan. 19. Ball left the Rockets game in the third quarter after colliding then-Rockets guard James Harden.

He was originally projected to only miss 4-6 weeks. When evaluated in late February, though, it was determined that Ball still needed more time to recover. The decision to shut him down for the season came in March after the second evaluation.

Meniscus Tear, 2018

Ball missed much of his rookie season behind knee soreness that eventually required surgery. This injury has proven to have a long-term effect on Ball as he’s still dealing with the side effects. After his rookie season, he underwent arthroscopic knee surgery, partially removing the meniscus to cut out the damaged piece. A study conducted by National Library of Medicine showed that pain and/or effusion in the knee after the return-to-sport were found in 22% of the athletes with meniscus operations.

Shoulder, 2017

Prior to the Lakers’ Christmas Day game, Ball was ruled out with a shoulder sprain and missed six games.

The Governors Ball is the first stop of the final night of an exhausting and bitter award season, where nominees, both winners and losers, can finally breathe, thankful that their months of staying on brand and on message has come to a close.

It takes place just a few escalators up from the Ray Dolby Ballroom itself, a short ride that in most years helps give the party a rarefied feel. Not this year, when all anyone could talk about was the slap seen around the world. It was top of mind for most conversations.

“It hijacked the night,” “It was like watching a car crash in real time,” were just some comments uttered by guests.

Yet not all of the ball’s attendees let the incident ruin their celebration. Anthony Hopkins, who had the dubious honor of winning best actor in 2020 when everyone thought it was going to Chadwick Boseman, took to a relatively empty dance floor with his wife for an energetic salsa.

It was a stark contrast to the Apple team, who skedaddled before you could say “truffle mac ‘n’ cheese.” Jamie Erlicht and Zack Van Amburg, the Apple executives who oversaw the release of “CODA,” which won for best picture, left early with Tim Cook, the Apple chief executive who attended the ceremony for the first time.

The team at Netflix, which was nominated for 27 Oscars and won only one, partied like they were the belles of the ball. Ted Sarandos, the co-chief executive of Netflix, belted out the lyrics to “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” while his marketing associate Albert Tello mugged with Jane Campion’s best director Oscar for “The Power of the Dog.” Ms. Campion swayed with Lisa Nishimura, another Netflix executive, while D.J. D-Nice kept the tunes going.

Ari Wegner, who lost out on making history as the first female cinematographer to win an Oscar, didn’t appear worse for wear, thrilled that Ms. Campion nabbed the prize. “All of our nominations are her,” Ms. Wegner said, adding that if it weren’t for Ms. Campion, none of them would have been in that room. “I have nothing at all to complain about.”

Ms. Wegner, who had been in the United States for over a month campaigning, was eager to get back to her home in Australia, comparing the campaign season to being on a movie shoot. “You have no agency over your life for a bit,” she said with a pause. “I would happily do it again.”

D-Nice’s tunes got the cast of “Power of the Dog” onto the dance floor, including Kodi Smit-McPhee, who was holding a rose — either a deliberate or inadvertent nod to his character.

Benedict Cumberbatch found his parents on a couple of high-backed stools, gave them a kiss and escorted them out. It may have served as the cue to leave.

Moments later Ms. Campion began her exit, parting the dance floors with people on either side chanting “Jane, Jane, Jane.” She held up her Oscar in triumph and waltzed out the door.

Several Players Showing Improvement in Louisville's Spring Ball - Sports Illustrated

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - As any coach in college football will tell you, games aren't won and lost in the spring. Louisville still has a little over five months until they travel up to Syracuse for their 2022 season opener.

We can put together our best educated guesses as to how the Cardinals will look in their fourth year under head coach Scott Satterfield, but for now, it's just that - a guess. This is especially true when you consider how many players aren't participating in spring practice.

Top playmakers such as Kei'Trel Clark, Monty Montgomery and Braden Smith all suffered season-ending injuries in 2021, and have yet to be fully cleared. Caleb Chander, Kenderick Duncan and MoMo Sanogo also had injuries this offseason that have kept them out of spring ball. Several others have been dinged up in some form, fashion or severity.

With so many projected game one starters and impact players forced to sit on the sideline during spring practice, or at least be limited in what they can do, it makes it that much harder to determine Louisville's ceiling for next season.

With that being said, Satterfield has been excited from what he has seen out of the players who have been able to participate. With 11 of their 15 allotted practice sessions now in the books, the head man of the Cards says that the only subpar practice they've had was the Monday after spring break.

"There's been great energy, great competitiveness," he said. "It means something to them. It's not just, "they say you got to get 15 days of practice in the spring, let's just go show up." That's not happening. They're coming out, and they're working really hard and very intentional in their approach, really in all three phases."

In fact, Satterfield named several players on both sides of the ball when asked who has shown the most improvement during the spring. The offense, in particular, garnered the most praise from Satterfield.

In the running back room, Satterfield said that Trevion Cooley "has been one of the players that's improved more than anybody else," adding that his growth, maturity and ability have "really gone up." Satterfield also mentioned that Jawhar Jordan has "turned a lot of heads" during the spring, and has popped at least one long run every time he gets reps.

The fourth-year head coach was extremely complimentary of offensive guard Luke Kandra, saying that he has come into his own and ready to start. Considering Bryan Hudson is taking over at center full time, Kandra very well could push for starting reps.

"He just creates a ton of depth," Satterfield said. "Caleb Chandler is not even going this spring, and we haven't missed a beat up front, and he's a First Team All-ACC lineman. Once we get him back, it's another body that we're going to be able to put in there."

Scroll to Continue

While wide receivers like Tyler Hudson, Dee Wiggins, Braden Smith and Ahmari Huggins-Bruce have received a lot of coverage this offseason, Satterfield made sure to note that Tyler Harrell has had a "great spring." Harrell has spent most of the spring working on the finer details of being wideout in an attempt to shed the notion that he is just a deep threat because of his speed.

"He's made a point of underneath catches, curl rounds, digs, catching the ball," Satterfield said. "He's improved, in the three years I've been here, the most of anybody on the team. His work ethic every single day, it's been tremendous."

Of course, Satterfield also highlighted several players on the defensive side of the ball that made tremendous strides in their game during the offseason.

He noted that defensive ends YaYa Diaby and Ashton GIllotte are both "showing up and making some great plays. With the middle linebacker duo of Montgomery and Sanogo out, K.J. Cloyd and Dorian Jones have been "doing some good stuff" according to Satterfield, who also said that cornerback Trey Franklin has "gotten better".

He did admit that the offense was ahead of defense right now, which was to be expected given the circumstances. The Cardinals surrendered 403.3 yards of offense per game last year, and are still waiting on a few summer additions to make it to campus. That being said, he likes what he has seen out of the first unit, and believes the spring will give others a chance to get better and thrive.

"They're impact players on that side of the ball, and we're gonna need those guys to help the defense.

Ball State hires UCLA assistant Michael Lewis as head men’s basketball coach - Hustle Belt

The Ball State Cardinals announced their new head men’s basketball coach on Friday morning, with UCLA assistant head coach Michael Lewis set to take over the program effective immediately.

Lewis, a Jasper, Indiana, native has been an assistant coach at the Division I level for 18 seasons, with stops at Steven F. Austin, Eastern Illinois, Butler, Nebraska and UCLA prior to accepting the head coaching job in Muncie.

This will be Lewis’ first head coaching gig.

“Basketball in our state is personified in Michael Lewis,” Ball State athletics director Beth Goetz said via press release. “His outlook on the game, relationship building, recruiting network, pedigree and proactive approach to engagement with our stakeholders resides at a high level. Additionally, his program values and standards on the court, in the classroom and the community will create a road map for the Cardinals to move onward, compete for Mid-American Conference titles and position our institution for a return to the NCAA Tournament. We are thrilled to welcome him, his wife Nichole along with their daughters Avery and Emma to Ball State.”

Lewis will be taking the place of former head coach James Whitford, who was let go earlier this March after nine seasons of service in Muncie.

“Along with my family, I am very grateful for the opportunity to lead the men’s basketball program at Ball State University,” Lewis said, also via press release. “Thank you to University President Geoff Mearns and Beth Goetz with whom I shared a vision for our program that will be aligned with their leadership and the values of Ball State. That united vision is paramount for success. We are very excited to return to the state of Indiana where basketball means so much to lead a program with tremendous history and great potential.”

Lewis was an instrumental part of Butler Bulldogs from 2011-2016, working under Brad Stevens, Brandon Miller and Chris Holtman to make Butler one of the premier basketball programs in the country, with three NCAA tournament appearances.

Lewis started his career as a graduate assistant under the legendary Bobby Knight at Texas Tech, after playing under Knight at Indiana from 1996-2000.

The new head man will inherit an interesting situation, as Freshman of the Year Payton Sparks is set to transfer— but MAC all-freshman teammate Jaylin Sellers is set to stay. This roster gave Ohio a scare in the early rounds, so there is certainly potential.

There will be several programs within the division under first-or-second year head coaches to keep measure with as well, which could put the Cardinals in prime position to make a run early under the right circumstances.

Caitlin Walsh selected to lead Ball State field hockey program - BallStateSports.com

MUNCIE, Ind. – Caitlin Walsh has been named the head coach of the Ball State field hockey program, director of athletics Beth Goetz announced Thursday. Walsh spent the last three seasons as an assistant coach at Kent State.

"After conducting a thorough search, Caitlin separated herself as a competitive and passionate leader who is well respected in this industry," Goetz said. "She is a relentless recruiter and is excited to develop our young women on the field and in the classroom. We're excited to welcome her to the Ball State family."

In her three seasons with the Golden Flashes, Kent State amassed a 34-18 record, including 20-5 in Mid-American Conference play. The Golden Flashes were regular season conference champions in 2019 and 2021.

"I am extremely honored to become the next field hockey coach at Ball State," Walsh said. "I would like to thank director of athletics Beth Goetz and deputy athletics director Haven Fields for providing me this amazing opportunity. I am looking forward to leading this group of young, motivated women to success in the classroom and on the field. I cannot wait to get started and lead this historic program."

During her time at Kent State, Walsh helped develop a plethora of successful student-athletes, including four National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-Region honorees, 15 All-MAC players, 50 National Academic Squad members, six MAC Distinguished Scholar-Athletes and 40 Academic All-Conference members.

"We're super excited and thrilled for Caitlin," Kent State head coach Kyle DeSandes-Moyer said. "I've had the privilege of having her with me at Kent State for the past three years. She's a dedicated coach with extremely high standards, and I'm very excited for her to lead the program at Ball State. The women at Ball State are very fortunate to have her with them. Having her in the Mid-American Conference is making our conference better. I'm thrilled to have someone from the Kent State family taking charge and advantage of this amazing opportunity."

Prior to her appointment at Kent State, Walsh spent three seasons at Davidson as an assistant coach. She also spent a year as an assistant athletic-academic advisor at Old Dominion while coaching for the Focus Field Hockey Club in Norfolk, Va. following a stellar collegiate career with the Monarchs.

In her collegiate career at Old Dominion, Walsh was a three-year starter for the Monarchs in the midfield and on defense, starting 59 games. She finished her career with 14 points on five goals and four assists, helping her team to two Colonial Athletic Association titles (2011-12), three Big East Tournament appearances (2013-15) and three NCAA Tournament appearances (2011-13).

Walsh replaces former head coach Stephanie Bernthal who has decided to pursue outside of coaching in college athletics.

The Power Game: Iowa, S. Beauregard thrive on long ball - American Press | American Press - American Press

Two of the most powerful offenses in the area will square off today in Longville.

In a District 4-3A softball showdown, South Beauregard (13-7) will host Iowa (15-5) at 5 p.m.

“I think it is going to be an exciting game,” Iowa head coach Kenzie Singletary said. “I think both teams will be strong on the offensive side.”

Email newsletter signup

Both teams average more than nine runs a game and have multiple power hitters.

South Beauregard is led by first baseman Morgan Eaves, who hit her 50th career home run on Monday. She has 14 this season, and shortstop Emelie Price, a Louisiana-Monroe signee, has nine.

Iowa has three players with four or more home runs in Kamryn Howard (8), Kamryn Broussard (6) and Calee Guillory (4). But Iowa is not solely focused on the long ball.

“We have been hitting the ball pretty well lately,” Singletary said. “We have several kids that have hit some home runs lately.

consistent in getting base hits. We are not shooting for the home run, but they are very consistent with their swings and getting a hold of some every now and then.

“Our pitchers have been working hard and doing a good job of keeping hitters off balance. Our defense has been pretty strong as well.”

There were three home runs in last year’s meeting, an 8-4 South Beauregard win.

Both teams are on extended win streaks with Iowa, last year’s Class 3A runner-up, with eight in a row, and the Lady K’s, a 2021 quarterfinalist, enters with a 10-game win streak.

Iowa shut out South Beauregard 6-0 earlier in the season, and Singletary said she expects to see both of the Lady K’s pitchers — Hayven Myers and Alyssa Cloessner — again.

“We played them early on in the season in a nondistrict game and saw both of their pitchers,” Singletary said. “We kind of know what they are bringing.

“They will probably try to throw both to keep us off balance. We have to have a good approach in the box and make sure we are staying disciplined and not try to hit home runs. We need to get base hits and hit the ball where it is pitched.”

Elsewhere

In Lake Charles, Barbe will host Sam Houston in the second game of a District 3-5A two-game series at 6 p.m. today.

Barbe (20-0) is ranked No. 1 in the latest Class 5A power ratings and Sam Houston (14-3) is ninth.

Hornets news: LaMelo Ball card value craters amid impressive All-Star ... - ClutchPoints

Without a doubt, LaMelo Ball has lived up to expectations during his second season in the NBA. After winning the Rookie of the Year award, the sophomore has taken the All-Star leap after being named as a reserve for Team Durant. At the same time, the Charlotte Hornets’ star is improving all facets of his game, which has gained him more fans in the hobby. The intriguing thing is his rookie card value is dropping, even though Ball is playing better and there’s a big demand for his stock in the market.

We take a deep dive down below at Ball’s sophomore campaign and how his rookie cards are performing from a price perspective.

LaMelo Ball’s All-Star Second Year Season

Even as a teenager during his first season with the Hornets, Ball was already playing at a high level. In the 51 games he played, 31 as a starter, the then-rookie averaged 15.7 points on 43% shooting from the field and 35% from beyond the arc while making 5.9 rebounds, 6.1 assists, and 1.6 steals. He also came off as a credible defender and impressive playmaker during that whole campaign, which resulted in him being named as the Rookie of the Year.

After missing the playoffs last year, the Hornets are currently in the mix for a spot in the play-in tournament. This is where Ball’s leap this season becomes an important factor for Charlotte to succeed. In the 64 games he has played so far, the point guard has increased his numbers to 19.7 points by hitting 42% from the field, 37% from deep, and 86% from the free throw line. He’s also making 6.8 rebounds, 7.4 assists, and 1.6 steals in 32.1 minutes per game.

While all of these numbers look great on paper, it gets better in an actual game. During the Hornets’ match against the Indiana Pacers earlier this season, the point guard notched 32 points, 11 rebounds, 8 assists, and a single steal in 39 minutes on the court. Ball also connected 54% of his field goals, 45% from three, and 100% from the charity stripe. This performance led to a 121-118 win for Charlotte over an Indiana squad that still had Malcolm Brogdon, Domantas Sabonis, and Caris LeVert in it.

This kind of performance has made Ball more popular, both on the court and in the card market. That’s why it didn’t come off as a surprise when the second-year guard was named to his first All-Star Game appearance recently as a reserve for Team Durant. During that match, the Hornets’ guard posted 18 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists. All things considered, that’s not a bad debut for someone so young in the NBA and with a lot of years ahead in his career.

But as great as his game is, there are some weaknesses Ball must resolve so he can take another leap in the league. There are games when he’s hot from three and a couple after when he’s shooting bricks. While his playmaking remains consistent, the All-Star needs to become a deadlier scoring threat to open up more opportunities for his teammates or help close out games against better teams.

Plus, the point guard needs to prove to collectors that he can transform Charlotte into a perennial playoff contender as soon as possible. If Ball manages to accomplish these things, expect more and more fans to flock his stock in the card market.

The state of LaMelo Ball rookie cards

Along with Luka Doncic and Ja Morant, LaMelo Ball cards are among the hottest stocks in the market. Rightfully so because the Hornets’ All-Star is the best guy from his class and he has been showing in his performance all season long. The thing is, his rookie card value isn’t reflecting that improvement in the market.

LaMelo Ball, Hornets, NBA Cards

In a three-month graph by Card Ladder, Ball’s PSA 10 Prizm Silver rookie card has gone down by almost 37%  from $2,900 to $1,830. This short-term drop occurred over the course of 15 confirmed sales on eBay.

LaMelo Ball, Hornets, NBA Cards

The same thing can be said about Ball’s PSA 10 base Prizms. In another short-term Card Ladder graph covering the same period, the said card has dropped by 32% from $357 to $242 over the course of 89 sales. The overall quantity of these gem-mint slabs, according to PSA’s population report, is 710 while the more coveted Silver rookie card is around 96.

The verdict on LaMelo Ball cards

While this drop may seem worrying, there are several key points that need to be remembered. At the peak of last season, LaMelo Ball rookie cards were overhyped in the market. Even a base Optic Rated Rookie card of the Hornets’ franchise star was selling for insane prices.

Now that he’s almost done with his second season, Ball’s value has somehow corrected. It only makes sense since there is a lot of his cards in the market and there’s a new batch of rookies making noise in the hobby as well. In any case, this isn’t a massive drop that some may fear.

LaMelo Ball cards, rookie card, Hornets

The key play here is to scoop up those LaMelo Ball rookie cards at the best price possible. The farthest Charlotte can potentially reach is the first round of the playoffs. It’s expected that they wouldn’t make it past the number one or two seed in the Eastern Conference, which would lead Ball to start his offseason earlier than other big names in the hobby.

At this point, his rookie cards will drop, as will most other stocks in the lead-up to the following season. This will be great for those with keen eyes as there is more room for growth and profit when that time comes. In any case, Ball’s stock in the card market is a pretty good one to invest in and better than almost everyone from his class. It wouldn’t certainly hurt to score a graded card of the Hornets’ All-Star at his current price level.

Cardinal Bats Stay Hot With 29 Runs in Two Games - BallStateSports.com

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State baseball team returned the Ball Diamond at First Merchants Ballpark Complex on Sunday for a doubleheader against Bowling Green. Matthew Rivera led the Cardinals with seven RBIs on a grand slam and a two-run homer as BSU won twice over BGSU.

Ball State has hit a grand slam in three-straight games, as the Cardinals have launched seven home runs as a team. Rivera, Adam Christianson, and Trenton Quartermaine have all hit two homers so far in the series against Bowling Green.

Amir Wright continued to be a terror for opposing pitchers as he has reached base safely in 19-consecutive games and is riding a six-game hitting streak.

BSU improved to 10-8 overall and 6-1 in MAC play, while BGSU dropped to 2-14 and 0-7 in league games.

Game One – Ball State 14, Bowling Green 9

The Falcons got on the board first in the top of the second inning on a two-run home run by Nathan Archer.

The Cardinals were unfazed by the Falcons' early lead. Zach Lane, Wright, and Nick Powell drove in a combined five runs before Christianson belted a grand slam to right center. Ball State answered with a nine-run inning and took a 9-2 lead into the third inning.

Quartermaine was hit by a pitch to lead off the bottom of the third inning. Powell followed with a perfectly placed bunt down the first base line for a single. Christianson drew a walk to load the bases with one out. Ryan Peltier lined a single to left field and drove in Quartermaine and Powell. BSU held an 11-2 lead after three complete innings.

Ryan Johnson led off the top of the fifth inning with a solo homer for the Falcons.

In the bottom of the fifth, Powell led off with a walk. Rivera followed with a single through the left side to give BSU two runners on with no outs. After back-to-back fly outs to right, Zach Cole blasted a three-run home run to straight away center and extended the Ball State lead to 14-3.

Bowling Green did not go down without a fight as the Falcons tallied six runs on five hits in the top of the sixth to make the score 14-9.

Sam Klein pitched 1 2/3 innings of scoreless ball and collected two strikeouts to keep BGSU from tying the game, as BSU won game one 14-9.

Ty Johnson improved to 3-1 on the season behind a five-inning performance on the mound. Johnson tallied six strikeouts and surrendered six earned runs on eight hits.

Christianson led Ball State with four RBIs on two hits. Powell, Cole, and Justin Conant all posted two hits in game one.

Andrew Abrahamowicz picked up the loss with 11 earned runs on 10 hits in just two innings of work.

Game Two – Ball State 15, Bowling Green 5

Wright started game two with a single for the Cardinals and then stole second. After back-to-back fly outs, Rivera drew a walk after being behind in the count 0-2. Christianson was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Ball State. Peltier delivered a huge two-out single two deep center to clear the bases for the Cardinals. BSU held a 3-0 lead after the first inning of play.

In the top of the third, Jack Krause hit a two-run homer for the Falcons and cut the Cardinal lead to 3-2.

Peltier started the home half of the fourth with a double to left center. Peltier stole third and scored as the Falcon catcher threw the ball into left field.

With two outs in the bottom of the fifth, Rivera hit an absolute rocket of a line drive down the left field line that cleared the wall for a two-run homer. Rivera's home run gave Ball State a 6-2 lead after five innings.

Bowling Green cut the lead to just one, 6-5, after a three-run inning in the top of the sixth.

The Cardinals once again showed how resilient they are as they responded with a six-run inning, the fourth time in the series that BSU has scored at least six runs in an inning. Conant got things started with a sac fly to right field. Powell recorded an infield single with bases loaded to plate the second run of the frame. Rivera put one into orbit as he launched a grand slam to left field.

Decker Scheffler doubled down the right field line to start things for Ball State in the bottom of the seventh. Conant was hit by a pitch to give the Cardinals runners on first and second with one out. Wright notched an RBI single up the middle. Quartermaine recorded a 10-pitch walk after being behind in the count 0-2, to load the bases for BSU. Powell and Rivera drew back-to-back walks to record the walk-off win as the Cardinals enforced the run rule, 15-5.

Trennor O'Donnell picked up the victory and improved to 2-2 on the season. He went 5 1/3 innings in the start with four strikeouts. He gave up four earned runs on three hits. Ryan Brown tossed 1 2/3 innings in relief. Brown struck out four batters and gave up one unearned run on one hit.

Rivera led BSU in game two with seven RBIs and a 2-for-3 performance at the plate. He also walked with the bases loaded to end the game. Peltier produced a solid 3-for-4 game at bat and added three RBIs.

Connar Penrod got the loss behind four innings of work. He gave up five runs, four earned, on four hits and struck out three Cardinal batters.

The Cardinals and Falcons close out the four-game series on Monday, March 21. First pitch is scheduled for noon at First Merchants Ballpark Complex.

From the Coach – Head Coach Rich Maloney
"We've gotten a lot of big hits this weekend. We've made some great plays. We've played pretty good defense all year. The bats came alive. The power has started to show what we thought we had. It just didn't show early in the year."

From the Student-Athletes – Senior Catcher #5 Adam Christianson
"Early in the season my timing was a little off. I started loading earlier and I've been able to start driving the ball. Early in the season we struggled to hit. Now our bats are starting to wake up. We've had the mentality to come in and score a bunch of runs."

From the Student-Athletes – Junior Catcher #23 Matthew Rivera
"Getting here early and hitting off the tee to get locked in along with all the support from the coaches really helped me find my swing. We need to keep doing what we've been doing and stay focused. We really want to get this fourth one."
