Karl James Ball, 79, of Brainerd, MN passed away Saturday, February 26, 2022, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth, MN. Internment will take place at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery – Little Falls, MN on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at 11:00 am. Following internment, a celebration of Karl’s life and luncheon will be held at the Brainerd American Legion Post 255 from 1pm to 3pm. Family and friends are welcome to join both events.
Karl was born October 1, 1942, in Decorah, Iowa, to John Jay and Iyla Regina (Casey) Ball. He attended High School and Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa. Karl honorably served in the US Army and was a Vietnam Veteran.
Karl met Mary Gwen (Olson), the love of his life and best friend, in 1970. They were united in marriage on November 11, 1972, in Dubuque, Iowa. Karl was so proud of each of their three children. He rarely missed a basketball game, track meet, football game, or Tae Kwon Do match; his family meant the world to him.
Karl spent more than 40 years in the propane business and continued sharing his knowledge with those still in the industry. Karl was an avid weightlifter, winning many awards along the way. Throughout his years in the Brainerd Lakes Area, Karl built many relationships and treasured those friendships. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his grandchildren.
Karl is greatly missed and survived by his bride of 49 years, Mary Gwen; favorite daughter Erin Ann (Jeff) Beach; two sons Jay W. (Jayme), and Kyle James (Rebecca); grandchildren Jacob (Angie), Chase, Gage, Orion, Hunter, Hannah, Fitzpatrick, and Jax; great-grandchildren Oliver and Ezra; sister Iyla Ant; brothers Jon Jay Ball (with 2 Js), and Dennis (Judy) Ball; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Karl in death are his parents John Jay and Iyla Ball, brother-in-law Gunnar Ant, sister-in-law Diane Ball, nephew Michael Ball, and his best pal Storm.
