Eli Jerzembeck: I told coach this morning that I wanted the ball - HighSchoolOT

Providence's Eli Jerzembeck wanted the ball in his hands at the end of the game when the Panthers swept Pincrest in 10 innings to win the 4A baseball state championship.

Hey, congratulations State Championship here with a 10 inning, 3 to 1 win over Pine crest in game two complete game shutout last night. Uh you know, obviously I'm sure a lot goes into a decision whether you're not gonna pitch today. How did you kind of wake up feeling this morning and what was the process like kind of note deciding whether or not you're going to go for that? I mean, I woke up this morning with definitely with the thought I wasn't gonna come back out, but I mean I threw a baseball and I knew my, I know my arm and it felt amazing of course my coaches definitely against me going out. But in a situation like this, I'm like coach, give me the ball, I'm going against everything you say, but just give me the ball, you know, and that's, that's kind of what he just trust me in that situation. He knew that I was, I was healthy enough to go back out there. So it was good. Yes sir. Mike keeps you in it, uh, really strong gate from him, pitches into extras. What do you see from him out there to kind of battle against those hitters? Oh, to see Mike go out there and dominate. It was awesome. You got the first inning, he strikes out to real fast. You just know it was gonna be a good game from the get go. He just looked lively. I mean, We had a good game yesterday and he passed the course down to him and he completely held his own and he dominated. That's all we needed was awesome. I asked you and him and Tommy during the regular season. I think it was 18 or 19 wins. What it meant to you to be undefeated. You kind of said you weren't really paying too much attention to the record. I'm sure you know what the record is now, you're the first team in state history to go 34 oh, what does it mean to you guys to have that kind of achievement? It means everything. I mean, we came into this season with the thought that we can do it and we knew we were gonna do it. But I mean the job's not finished till it's finished and it's finally finished. So I mean we held to our words, we kept grinding and we didn't give up. So it was awesome. You're in a unique spot. You're signed to South Carolina, but you've definitely played your way onto the radar for the MLB draft here in july. What's kind of your mindset heading into that process? I mean kind of, I mean, I know my worth. I mean, we'll see. We'll see where my future takes me, but wherever I go, I'm gonna dominate. So we'll wait for it in terms of who you are as a pitcher. You know, you're not 6465, you're not the most wiry guy really. I think efficient delivery and what do you kind of do to generate velocity and the spin that you do? I think it's the same mechanics every time. I mean, it's good to change up like the way you do things, but you still gotta stick with your main mechanics that you do every time. I mean, I've never been big on trying to hit villas. I think just naturally, just using your mechanics, use your body with the villa will come and that's kind of what I've stuck to and it's just naturally has come to me this season. Are you one of the guys who go in pitching labs to kind of get all your specs or something or you just a sling and I know I'm the most modern day, uh, young kid, old kid, it was a modern day old kid you have to meet because I don't like to do long toss or anything like that or way to pause or anything. I'm big of just long tossing just like to do my mechanics okay.
